I like to stay at world-renowned hotel chains and even when I think that I know them, they surprise me with their unique touches. I think this is what every hotel should have, something that makes them different. In the case of the InterContinental Prague, which is a 5-star hotel, I already expected a luxurious experience in a more conservative hotel, but I was surprised at how they have adapted to the new needs of the traveler.
Location
The hotel is located in the historic center of Prague, a 5-minute walk (along the luxurious Pařížská Street) from the Old Town Square. And very close to the synagogues, the Jewish Cemetery and other tourist attractions. It is also close to the bridges that cross to the other part of the city where the castle is located.
Facilities
I must emphasize that the hotel is huge and more classic. I consider this important to mention because some travelers prefer smaller or more contemporary hotels, although my mother says that she doesn’t feel on vacation if she doesn’t stay at a large hotel (she would certainly love this one).
Going back to our experience, we had a huge suite, with living room, dining room and a beautiful view towards the Old Town Square where you could see the towers of the Church of Our Lady before Týn.
The hotel is perfect for conventions or large events, it has rooms that can be used for weddings or conferences. By the way, I loved the lamps in the lobby and the huge mirrors in the hallways. It also has a very nice restaurant with views of the city and a terrace ideal to end the night with a delicious glass of wine while admiring the city.
Speaking of its facilities, I took a tour of the W, which is its gym and spa and I was quite surprised. I have to be honest with my readers, when I am traveling, I never go to the gymnasiums of the hotels, because one already walks a lot during the trips -and yes also because of laziness-, but I had never seen such a large and complete gym in a hotel.
The spa was very nice, the gym with the most equipment you can imagine, a room for yoga or pilates and of course a huge heated indoor pool with salt water, covered by a glass roof, ideal for use year round. And on top of it, a garden with lounge rooms and an outdoor gym.
Amenities that make the difference
There were two services that I really liked about this hotel. The first was that they put at your disposal a mobile service that can be freely used. I find it wonderful because not everyone travels with Internet, so with this you can stay connected and consult Google maps to find your way around the city. This is what I call fully adapting to the current needs of the traveler.
The second service is that they offer a pillow menu, which for those of us suffering from severe neck pain, is a great way to think about customer comfort. I speak from experience here, because you can be in a beautiful hotel, but if they have uncomfortable pillows that cause a neck contracture, this can spoil your trip. It is the first hotel where I saw this service.
What type of traveler do I recommend it to?
The traveler looking for a 5-star luxury accommodation. And the traveler who prefers international chains and above all big hotels in every sense. I like it for corporate trips or large events such as a wedding where you need a host hotel for both the party and the accommodation of your guests.
*Thanks to the InterContinental Prague for its friendly hospitality.
