Siena is a marvelous city located between the hills of Tuscany. A place that you definitely have to visit if you travel to this region of Italy, since for its beauty it is one of the most touristic cities in the country. Precisely for this reason, I recommend you to stay at least one night, to enjoy it to its fullest.
We arrived by train, which reaches the outskirts of the city, but it was quite strange, since you have to go up an extremely long escalator to reach the central area of Siena. This is where I emphasize the accommodation that I am recommending in this post, since generally when traveling through several cities in Italy, you usually spend one night at most in Siena.
Our accommodation was near the escalator (where there is also a shopping center), that leads directly to the train station. We chose to stay closer to the station than to the center, because we only went for one night and it seemed very tedious to carry our luggages around the cobbled streets of the center, which is also usually very busy. And since Siena is a city that is usually visited in a short time, we found it more practical to be close to the station to continue our journey through Italy.
This time, we stayed one night at Hotel Italia, a very nice 3-star accommodation, themed and with an exceptional service. I think that the most valuable point that this hotel has, is its staff and the very personalized treatment towards their clients.
Location
As I mentioned before, the hotel is only a few meters from the exit of the aforementioned escalator that connects the train station with the upper part of the city, and about a 20-minute walk from the old town. A very practical location for those who want to get off the train, leave their bags at the hotel and go exploring the city without any luggage, and the next day have breakfast and continue their trip.
Facilities
The hotel is in a historic building, which has been remodeled and has a very relaxing atmosphere, very pleasant with its decoration where white, wood, chandeliers and many photographs of actors from the golden cinema era predominate.
The rooms are spacious but very simple, all have been renovated, some in a contemporary-classic style -like the rest of the hotel- with modern bathrooms, where white always prevails. But other rooms, like the one we had, which although they have been renovated, still preserve a much more traditional decoration, especially with their duvets and curtains. For example, our bathroom was very large, but in a more conservative style. But this does not influence the comfort at all.
It is important to mention the two types of decoration in the rooms, because as I only show the pictures I took based on my experience in this article, I want you to know that there are also more modern rooms. It is only a matter of asking the hotel and requesting it, if it suits your needs. Aw! and there is also a Love Room, ideal for honeymooners ;-).
As for the common areas, it has a restaurant (divided into two rooms) where buffet breakfast is served and a very nice bar. And if you want to go to the pool, since this hotel does not have one but as being part of Sienna Inns (where they have two hotels, apartments and vacation residences), you are allowed to access the pool of the Hotel Garden, which is only a few meters from the Hotel Italia.
What type of traveler do I recommend it to?
The traveler that is looking for a 3-star hotel or affordable accommodation, which is at the same time beautiful and clean, something I like to call “budget chic”.
*Thanks to the Hotel Italia for its friendly hospitality.
