When people ask me “what is Prague like?”, the first thing that comes to my mind is that it is a city out of a fairy tale. And if you want to have the complete “magical” experience, I recommend you staying at the Hotel Aurus, to feel like the princess of the story or at least that is how I imagined it.
Location
If you like being in the center of everything, you will not be able to beat this location, as it is on Karlova Street, one of the most beautiful in the center, which takes you right to the impressive Charles Bridge.
At first, I thought that precisely because of the location, we were going to have a lot of noise, but that was actually not the case at all, at least in our room we had a very comfortable and quiet stay, quite curious since leaning out the window, you could see hundreds of tourists walking the streets.
Facilities
The U Zlaté house, where this small family hotel with only eight rooms is located, was built in the XVI century, so as you can imagine it is a beautiful historical building. From the outside, it is striking because the building is on a corner where the streets Karlova and Seminářská divide, allowing figures in high relief and the golden star where the virgin with baby Jesus stands out, to be better appreciated. In a nutshell, the building itself is a work of art.
Inside, it has a strange distribution because it is tiny, but its rooms are very spacious, for example ours had a very good size and we were told that it was one of the smallest. I would never have imagined it for the size of the lobby and the narrow staircase, but this is one of the great things of this hotel, it surprises you in many ways.
For example, it also caught my attention that at first, I thought that it would be a very traditional hotel in every way, but the fact that it is old does not imply that it has not been modernized, because it has an elevator, air conditioning and the bathrooms in the rooms are modern (which I like), actually more modern than many of the bigger hotels we have stayed in during our trip through Europe.
Here a little advice, if you have the opportunity, stay in one of the suites, apart from the fact that they are larger (even with a living room), they have an exquisite decoration with antique chairs, chandeliers -but like all rooms-, with beds and modern bathrooms. One of the suites has divine wooden ceilings.
The dining area where breakfast is served is also charming since it is small, but with its chandeliers and wooden tables following the style of the hotel.
What type of traveler do I recommend it to?
It is great for couples, since it is a very romantic hotel, in fact on their page they offer romantic getaways. I also recommend it to the traveler who puts the location as a priority and who likes to be in the middle of the tourist fuss.
*Thanks to the Hotel Aurus for its friendly hospitality.
